Welcome from the Admissions Team
At Hamilton College, we recognise that choosing a school for your child is a big decision, therefore, we aim to make the admissions process as relaxed and as informative as possible.
Although our website and prospectus paint a picture of life at Hamilton College, the best way to get a feel for our academic excellence, having been named as one of the Top 10 Scottish Independent Schools based on our 2017 exam results*, first-rate pastoral care and broad variety of activities, is to come and see for yourself. You can visit us on our Open Days, or for a more personal experience, arrange a visit and/or a Taster Day.
We appreciate you considering Hamilton College and we look forward to getting to know your family and build a relationship that will extend beyond your child’s time at Hamilton College.
Assessment and Experience Days
Our annual Assessment Days are held in mid-late January. They combine a Taster Day, allowing pupils to experience what a day at Hamilton College is really like, with an assessment to recognise pupils’ abilities.
Hamilton College has an Accessibility Policy and our assessments can be adapted to ensure that pupils with additional support needs or a disability are not disadvantaged.
Visit our School
The best way to fully appreciate what Hamilton College has to offer your son or daughter is to join us for a visit. We would be delighted to arrange a tour of the School, at a time that suits you and your family. Although, we always recommend coming during term-time to get a realistic feel for the school. If your son or daughter is interested in sports, music, or certain subjects, we can ensure that your tour focuses on these aspects and that you meet key staff in these areas.
You will be welcomed by Mr Tom McPhail, our Principal, and have an opportunity to talk to staff and pupils about their life at Hamilton College.
Tours are typically led by one of our Vice-Principals or the Head of Junior School, and include our Nursery, Junior School and Senior School. During your tour you will have the opportunity to see our classrooms, science labs, computer and technology rooms, practical areas for music, studios for art and design, library, dining hall, and sports facilities including our 25m heated swimming pool, gymnasia, cardio suite, weights room, playing fields and all-weather pitch.
During Open Day our tours are led by J7 pupils and our Prefects and you will also have the opportunity to speak to our Principal, Vice-Principals and Head of Junior School.
The best way for prospective pupils to feel comfortable with Hamilton College as their new school is to join us for a Taster Day. Your son or daughter will be paired with a pupil in their year group, and will join in lessons and activities for the day. Let us know any interests or hobbies your child has, so that we can make sure they have a chance to sample them during the taster day. If we know of their interests and hobbies beforehand, your son or daughter can have the opportunity to experience the related activities on offer.
Our annual Open Days are held in January and October and are an excellent opportunity to see a true day in the life of the School. Visitors will be given a tour of the school, during which you will be able to experience lessons and activities, talk to current pupils, staff and parents about the school, and to ask any questions you may have. Parents who have organised visits earlier in the year are also encouraged to attend.
