A Message to Families Affected by the Closure of Fernhill School

The entire Hamilton College community is saddened to learn that Fernhill School is closing. As close neighbours in South Lanarkshire, many of us share connections with the families and staff impacted by this news, and our thoughts and prayers are with everyone at this difficult and unsettling time.

We understand the emotional and practical challenges this situation presents. We would like to offer a compassionate ear and our support to families and children navigating this change.

We will be open tomorrow, Saturday 31 January, to welcome any Fernhill families who would like to discuss their child’s education. Staff will be on hand from 1000-1200 for a chat and a coffee. For any families who would like a 1-1 chat with our Headteacher, Mr Richard Charman, we have a handful of slots available from 0800. Mr Charman will also be available throughout the morning. Families who intend to join us tomorrow are invited to let us know when they expect to arrive.

We recognise that families may need time to consider what is best for their child, and if you are unable to join us tomorrow, we have bespoke tours available throughout next week, which can be arranged at a time that suits your family. Please let us know if you would like to arrange a visit, and a member of our team will be in touch.

Our doors are open

We know that this is a difficult time for the entire Fernhill community. Our doors are open, and we are here to assist you in any way we can.

Please do not hesitate to contact our team at 01698 282700 or email us at [email protected]. Our phone line will be open from 0800-1300 tomorrow, Saturday 31 January, in addition to our usual operating hours 0800-1800, Monday - Friday.

A community with shared values

We are more than just neighbouring schools; we also share similar values. Like Fernhill, we are a faith-based school, with our badge and ethos inspired by the scripture: ‘To grow in the Grace and Knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ’ (2 Peter 3:18).

While we warmly welcome families of all faiths and none, this foundation underpins our commitment to compassion, respect, wisdom and care for each child as an individual. Since our founding, these principles have remained central to who we are and how we support young people through their education.
