Junior Pastoral Care Junior School

We prioritise pupil wellbeing through the Getting It Right For Every Child (GIRFEC) approach in order to support children so that they feel loved, safe and respected and can realise their full potential.

We aim to ensure at school, at home or in the wider community, every child is:

  • Safe
  • Healthy
  • Achieving
  • Nurtured
  • Active
  • Respected
  • Responsible
  • Included

Pupils who feel valued, secure and happy have the best foundation for optimised learning.

We have a comprehensive Health and Wellbeing programme and progressive planner that incorporates Nursery through to J7, investigating topics such as:

  • Being Me in my World - understanding my place in the class, school and global
  • community as well as devising Learning Charters.
  • Celebrating Difference - anti-bullying and diversity.
  • Dreams and Goals - goal-setting, aspirations for self and for the world, and
  • working together.
  • Healthy Me - drugs and alcohol education, self-esteem and confidence as well as
  • healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Relationships - understanding friendship, family and other relationships, conflict
  • resolution and communication skills.
  • Changing Me - coping positively with change.

Pastoral care for pupils is provided by class teachers. Teachers meet with the Head of Junior School each term to discuss every pupil’s wellbeing and progress. Concerns are monitored and communicated to parents as necessary. Parents are actively encouraged to communicate with class teachers about any concern they have in relation to the wellbeing of their child.
