Young Enterprise
Young Enterprise Scotland (Y.E.S.) is Scotland's leading business skills programme provider for aspiring young people. Our programmes give young people the opportunity to test out their business ideas and develop their own small business as a member of a dynamic team. At Hamilton College pupils can choose to participate in a Young Enterprise Company in S6. The Young Enterprise Company Programme helps senior students appreciate and better understand the role of business in our society. With the support and guidance of volunteer consultants from the local business community, the Company Programme provides basic economic education for senior school students. By organising and operating an actual business enterprise, students not only learn how businesses function, they also learn about the structure of the U.K. free enterprise system and the benefits it provides. Pupils who opt to be part of this program will be involved in the following:
- Organising a Young Enterprise Company
- Developing a Business Plan
- Managing a Young Enterprise Company
- Liquidating a Young Enterprise Company
- Testing business understanding

Excello 2 had 18 pupils who created a company in Hamilton College. Products and services ranged from selling advertising space in the school Yearbook – to making a selling Christmas Decorations and Hand Crafted badges (see images on the left). The company also helped run a charity event where £600 was raised for Clyde 1’s Cash for Kids and The Salvation Army.
On the 10th of December 2005 the pupils were invited to sell at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall where they had a successful day. Pupils are also invited to the Young Enterprise Conference in Edinburgh during November. This allows pupils to interact with other companies and learn more about the world of business.
