Topics Taught
Applied Electronics – Designing and building electronics circuits using individual components.
Systems & Control – Methods of control e.g. open loop, closed loop, proportional, on/off; programming Applied Electronics microcontrollers; data-logging using microcontrollers.
Structures & Materials – Calculating the forces in beams and framed structures; analysing the properties of materials and investigating the suitability of different materials for various structures.
Case Study Report – Researching a solution to an existing technological problem, e.g. a guitar effects unit – how it operates and what the social, economic and environmental effects of this product are.
Homework
Regular homework including weekly ink exercises.
Assessments (Internal and External)
Every unit is internally assessed by sitting National Assessment Bank (N.A.B.) assessments. Pupils must pass each unit before sitting the final external exam. This exam determines the grade awarded to the pupil for the course.
