Intermediate 1 Physical Education

Topics Taught

An Intermediate 1 certificated course is offered in S3. Here the pupils will study basic theory and practice in three areas and this will be demonstrated through various activities. Pupils will be continuously assessed and in S4 an Intermediate 2 certificated course is available. Here they will build on knowledge gained from Intermediate 1 and develop further knowledge of the three areas. Again they will be continuously assessed throughout the course and will sit an SQA exam at the end of the year.

Homework
The pupils will receive regular homework and must return it on time and there is an expectation to attend extra curricular clubs.

Assessments (internal and external)
The two courses have similar assessment procedures as they are both continuously assessed throughout the year in theory and practical performance. Each candidate must complete and pass internal NABS, thus allowing the candidate to sit the SQA written exam at the end of the year. Practical grades will be included in their final grade.

Next Steps
Pupils who successfully complete Intermediate 2 P.E. have a solid foundation in preparation for the Higher Grade course.
