Advanced Higher Music
Topics Taught
There are two routes to certification in the Advanced Higher Music Course,
Music with Performing for candidates opting for the Unit:
Performing (Advanced Higher)
Candidates choosing this unit will specialise in instrumental or vocal performance. This will be at least at grade 5 level.
Music with Technology for candidates opting for the Unit:
Performing with Technology (Advanced Higher)
Candidates choosing this unit will specialise in MIDI PC applications as well as perform on an instrument or voice at Grade 5 level.(min)
COURSE STRUCTURE
This Course consists of three 40 hour Units.
All candidates must take the two mandatory Units:
- Music: Composing (Advanced Higher) 1 credit (40 hours)
- Music: Listening (Advanced Higher) 1 credit (40 hours)
and one of the following optional Units:
- Music: Performing (Advanced Higher) 1 credit (40 hours)
- Music: Performing with Technology (Advanced Higher) 1 credit (40 hours)
Homework
Regular instrumental/vocal practice as well as the completion of work set by the teacher.
Assessments (Internal and External)
All 3 areas of development are subject to internal assessment however, for National Course certification the Inventing element is awarded pass/fail by the teacher and contributes no marks to the final award. Candidates have to receive a pass for a course award to be granted. Additionally at Advanced Higher candidates have to undertake the production of a series of short reports on their listening exercises done in class. They then have to use these as the basis for the writing of a 1500 word analytical essay.
