First & Second Year French

S1
The S1 French course provides continuity and progression for pupils who have studied French in Primary School, as well as enabling complete beginners to quickly feel competent. The course material is Métro (1) which offers pupils a lively experience, as they participate in a variety of activities across a range of topics. These include: personal information (e.g. myself, family, pets, dates and birthdays), house & home, school, sport & hobbies.
Lessons typically incorporate elements of all language-learning skills – speaking, listening, reading and writing. Regular homework is given, both work to be learned and written exercises, and ongoing course-related assessment helps staff, pupils and parents monitor progress

S2
The course for S2 pupils is based on Métro (2), which follows on from the S1 experience. The material consolidates and develops pupils’ language skills in a varied and lively way. Topics include: talking about the past, daily routine, leisure activities, future plans, food & drink and holidays in Paris.
Lessons typically incorporate elements of all language-learning skills – speaking, listening, reading and writing. Regular homework is given, both new language and written exercises, and ongoing course-related assessment helps staff, pupils and parents monitor progress.
Classes are set for French in S2, which helps pupils of all abilities learn at an appropriate pace. We aim to encourage pupils to enjoy and meet the challenge of learning a foreign language.
