Higher Grade Geography
Topics Taught
The 3 Units taught in Higher are the same as in Intermediate 2 but can be broken down into
- Physical Environments - Atmosphere, Biosphere, Lithosphere Hydrosphere.
- Human Environments – Industry, Population, Urban and Rural
- Environmental Interactions – Rural Land Resources and Urban Change and Its Management
Fieldwork is important in Higher Geography and a Residential Trip is organised to the Yorkshire Dales.
Homework
About 2/3 hours each week with a quick test and an Ink Exercise approximately every two weeks
Assessments (Internal and External)
The Quick Tests are extended written Assessments every 2 weeks in addition to 3 NABs for the SQA, the Prelim examination and an additional NAB late in the year. This culminates in the final examination which consists of two papers totalling 2 hours and 45 minutes
Next Steps
Successful completion of the Higher in S5 and an A-C award in the final exam allows pupils to move onto the Advanced Higher
