Topics Taught
Units taught at both Intermediate 2 and Higher are as follows:
- Unit 1: Language Study
- Unit 2: Literary Study
- Unit 3: Personal Study of Literature (written version).
Pupils undergo extensive and intensive teaching in language skills, textual analysis and critical evaluation.
Homework
The amount of homework issued varies according to the ability of pupils. Homework tasks will typically consist of reading (for the Personal Study and of texts selected for class study); preparation and/or research for an essay; textual analysis; close reading; preparation for unit tests and examinations. Pupils are also expected to become familiar with quality journalism.
Assessments (Internal and External)
In S5 and S6 pupils are assessed according to the Arrangements documents for Intermediate 2 and Higher. This entails passing unit tests in close reading and writing (Unit 1); textual analysis (Unit 2); Personal Study of Literature (Unit 3).
