Higher / Intermediate 2 Economics

Topics Taught

Three Units of Study are;

Microeconomics (40 hours)
This unit should enable students to explain the basic economic problem as well as the demand for and supply of goods and services. It will hopefully enable them to interpret the behaviour of a market and explain the cost and revenue behaviour of a firm.

The UK Economy (40 hours)
This unit should enable students to outline the determination of National Income, explain changes in the price level and explain the level of unemployment in the economy, as well as the economic activities of the government.

The International Economy (40 hours)
This unit covers international trade and payments, as well as the European Union

Homework
Homework consists of approximately 2-3 hours per week, divided between background reading and written tasks. Approximately every fortnight a larger written piece of work will have to be submitted – this will become weekly after the October break.

Assessments (Internal and External)
The assessment of this course consists of one internal assessment per unit, which take the form of data response questions or essay-style answers and culminates in an external assessment. The internal assessments are 1 hour in duration with the final examination being 2.5 hours in duration.

Next Steps
