Pupil Support

The Pupil Support Team in Hamilton College is committed to helping our pupils thrive and achieve their potential in a happy and safe environment.  We aim to support our young people as they develop academically, emotionally and socially so that ultimately they can take their place as responsible citizens in society.

Caring, co-operating and collaborating

To deliver a high level of personal support for our pupils, Guidance and Learning Support teachers recognise the need to work collaboratively with individual departments, teachers and parents.  We aim to be the 'user-friendly' link between home and school, able to empathise with our pupils and parents alike.

Since we have the training and skills to empathise with the pupil and because we are with them for their whole time at Hamilton College, we aim to develop a special relationship and understanding with each one.  We are privileged to be able to contribute to the young person's learning and attainment by listening to our young people, advising and supporting them so that self-esteem, motivation and awareness of responsiblility are heightened.

We feel that the Pupil Support Department is at the heart of a caring school and therefore plays a key role in its success.

Our Pupil Support Department consists of two teams: Guidance and Learning.

Each pupil is allocated a Guidance teacher who will support and work alongside them as they progress through Senior School. We, as a school, feel that it is important for a child to have continuity at key transitional points, e.g. from J7 to S1, option choice between S2 & S3, and again further up the school.

Pupil Support Learning operates across the school through Nursery, Kindergarten, Junior and Senior departments to enhance the educational experience of individuals. Pupil Support Learning works closely with Pupil Support Guidance to ensure consistency across curricular and pastoral areas of the school experience.
