Principal's Welcome

Hamilton College is a vibrant community where young people enjoy learning and developing their talents and skills. It is also a community where the values of respect for others, tolerance and integrity are encouraged within a caring Christian ethos. Throughout the school I am constantly impressed by the focus on meeting the needs and aspirations of learners and by the commitment to ensuring that individuals develop their potential. A personal aspiration is to see Hamilton College develop as an e-confident school.

Hamilton College has much to celebrate. The news items on the website are evidence of both individual and group successes. The wide range of extra-curricular activities at lunchtime, after school and at weekends provides an added dimension to school life. These include educational visits and sporting tours within the United Kingdom and in Europe. The reintroduction of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme has been a particular highlight this session. It is wonderful that numerous staff are willing to contribute to the wider life of the school in this way.

In December 2007 we were delighted to achieve our Silver Accreditation as a Health Promoting School. Hamilton College is now ‘Going for Gold’. The entire school community is committed to promoting health and well-being and believe it is extremely important for our young people and staff to develop and maintain healthy lifestyles.

Hamilton College is a school community that has a genuinely family atmosphere where young people are welcome from all social and cultural backgrounds. Visitors often comment on the friendliness of the welcome they receive and we look forward to extending this welcome to you when you visit us.

Following my appointment as Acting Principal I would like to thanks parents, staff and pupils for their congratulations and good wishes. A new job is a tremendous opportunity, but also a challenge – one that I have thoroughly enjoyed in recent weeks. Thank you for your support.
