Art Trip

This year the art field-trip theme was "LOOKING-UP...LOOKING DOWN": The creative activities were all inspired by one of these ways of seeing. The pupils were split into three teams of three and named after the poets BASHO, ELIOT and WHITE whom they had readings from each morning(along with the psalms) as the specific tasks/themes were opened up. These were also enriched by demonstrations given by three professionals (Euan Gunn, Fraser Muirhead and Blair Thomson): one a documentary film-maker, one a jeweller and one a painter.
The site specific nature of the work involved the ancient Caledonian forest, the Nethy River and the Cairngorm Mountains. In the evening pupils participated in marshal art exercises called Chi Kung before games. Other evening activities were Chinese ink and brush calligraphy, paper bracelet design and abstractions relationship and response to music.
The highlight was possibly the very large group ink painting in the forest although the land sculpture was also a huge success.
