J1 - J4
Pupils at J1 -4 are given opportunities to experience active learning and traditional teaching methods. In doing so, we aim to develop confident, successful and responsible children who are able to reflect on their learning experience.
In J1 this term children will learn about their local area and the wildlife around them through a topic based on "Percy the Park Keeper". Later in the term pupils will compare toys from the past with toys they enjoy playing with today and the children will be responsible for setting up their very own Toy Shop (with a VIP making an appearance at Christmas time!)
In J2 pupils will discover the wonders of our world through their topic, "Living things around us". We are fortunate to be close to Strathclyde Park and are able to make good use of their Ranger service, allowing the children to learn outdoors. Later in the term the children will learn about their local community through their "People who help us" topic - with an exciting visit to our local fire station planned.
In J3 the children will extend their knowledge of the local area through a topic focusing on "Houses and Homes". This will also give them opportunities to look at homes in different parts of the world, comparing them to their own. A visit to Culzean Castle and Country Park is planned later this term.
J4 children will travel back to the time of the Romans to learn about the daily life of soldiers in the Roman army and the customs and traditions of both rich and poor Romans. They are looking forward to their Roman Feast where the children (and teachers!) will don their togas for a sumptuous banquet. Watch our webpage for photographs of this fun event!
