Peter Andre Visits Hamilton College

Peter Andre visited the school today as an ambassador for Fake Bake. He came to address the children regarding the dangers of Sunbeds and the risks of cancer.

He shared his own thoughts and stories with the children and then held a question and answer time with the whole school. Later, some of the pupils were lucky enough to meet him and his team, along with the Principal.

Nearly all of the major newspapers came to the school to report and photograph the event. STV and ITV2 also filmed the event for use on Peter's show 'Peter Andre - My Life'.

School Show Cast Announced

Hamilton College is delighted to announce that this year's school show will be Oliver. The show will run for three nights from the 9th - 11th of October 2012. Well done to all the pupils who have been successful in their auditions and have secured a part. Mr Geddes, Mrs McSeveney, Mrs Tweedie and Mrs Lannigan are delighted and look forward to working with this fantastic group of individuals. Good luck to everyone involved.

Students from S2 enjoyed their first day at Teen Ranch where the enjoyed some lovely sunshine and a number of sports from canoeing to archery with some football and horse riding too.

S3 attend Radiation Protection at SECC

S3 pupils attended the above event which was a great opportunity. Every 4 years that over 1000 Radiation Protection Professionals from around the world gather in a different country to attend International Radiation Protection Association's Congress...and this year they came to Glasgow. The theme for the event was 'Living with Radiation - Engaging with Society'.

The event included a range of exhibitions, many of a hands-on nature, together with opportunities to meet international experts. Eminent Hospital Physicist, Professor Peter Marsden from University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, lectured on some of the exciting developments in the use of radiation in medicine.

Mathematical Challenge (Primary)

We are delighted to share the excellent results achieved in the Mathematical Challenge (Primary).

This competition is organised by the Scottish Mathematical Council. Primary 7 mathematicians are invited to solve three sets of problems over the course of the year. Papers are submitted to Glasgow University for marking.

Bronze awards were achieved by: Morna Bell, Sophie Bren, Ciara Docherty, Robbie McGuinness, Victoria McMahon and Zaid Sharif.

Adam Chadwick won the silver award and Adam Gardner won the gold award. They have both been invited to Glasgow University to accept their awards.

Well done to everyone. This is a fantastic achievement!

Nursery Children Become Dentists

The Nursery and Kindergarten children have been learning how to care for themselves and to become responsible citizens. They have been talking about nurses, doctors and denists and the jobs that they do.

French Trip

A group of 43 pupils and 5 staff arrived at school on Saturday 12th May at 6:45am after the long journey back from the Chateau where we were based in Rue, northern France. The exhausting journey did not however take the shine off what was an excellent week of new sights and experiences for many of the pupils in the group. Highlights were a full day spent finding out about the battle of the Somme through a visit to the Albert museum and site visits including the Thiepval Memorial. A full day was spent in Paris culminating in a trip to the top of Tour Montparnasse from which pupils enjoyed a panoramic view of the beautiful city. Parc Asterix was our final full day trip and all the pupils agreed it was much better than going to Disneyworld!

We were wonderfully served by excellent staff at our accommodation at the Chateau du Broutel and blessed by excellent weather when it mattered.... a real answer to prayer! Thank you to the staff for making the trip run so smoothly, Mrs Blackstock, Mrs Ferry, Mr Ross and Mr Leiper who joined the team at very short notice in the absence of Mrs Bentley through illness. Thanks also to the pupils for making this an easy trip to manage. They were a credit to themselves, their families and to the school.

J1 have been learning about some of the things that babies need and how to look after them. Yesterday Charlie's baby brother came to visit us. We asked his Mum lots of questions about looking after him. We all had a great afternoon and Charlie enjoyed showing off his baby brother. Baby Cayden was very good!
